Dr. Water.

My 7 year old has a billion stuffed animals and has named each and every one of them. It blows my mind that she is able to remember all their names. I can barely remember my own!

My 2 year old is off to a great start in the naming business as well. She loves to play with her Fisher Price pirate ship and came up with a great name for one of the little figures that lives on this ship. She named him Dr. Water.

It seems like she is really fond of this name. While taking a bath this evening, she insisted on me calling her Dr. Water. Then she put on some goggles, just to get the full effect of this amazingly cool name.

She also loves to get in to my make-up. What little girl doesn't? And of course it is no secret that each 2 year old girl needs her very own lipstick. Santa thought so, too, and left one for her in her stocking.

She doesn't just get into my make-up. Oh, no. This little rascal gets into WHATEVER comes her way. Here she is after I busted her playing with a toilet paper roll (or tore a toilet paper roll apart is more like it.) This was her expression when I asked her what she was up to.

Oh, but she's sweet. A bundle of joy. A handfull, no doubt, but oh, how we love her!

Laziness.

I took my 7 year old to her ballett class last night. While waiting for her, I made an observation. And now I will tell you about it. There is an automatic door opener next to one of the doors. People who are fully capable of opening the door manually feel drawn to this button. What's funny is when this door opener doesn't work. People will push the button over and over again, rather than just opening the door themselves. Personally, I think this is a sign of laziness.

We're big Jeff Foxworthy fans. My husband (who is a self proclaimed red neck) loves his red neck jokes. In the spirit of Jeff Foxworthy, I came up with the following:

You know you are lazy when.....

  • you text someone in the other room to do something for you
  • you don't wash your hands after going to the bathroom
  • your postal mail still has junk mail from 2004 sitting in the mailbox
  • your fridge is full by keeping small left overs in big pots rather than putting them into small containers
  • you use paper plates every day
  • you order delivery from the pizza place next door
  • you smack the tv remote instead of replacing the batteries
  • you take the elevator one story up to get to the gym
  • you drive to a store on the other side of a parking lot

Can't think of any more at the moment. Do you have some to share?

Jungle life.

To avoid confusion, I will clarify: I have 2 really good friends named Julie. Since I have now reconnected with one of the Julies through the blessed society of Facebook, I will from now on refer to them as Julie R and Julie K. Julie R is my childhood Norwegian friend, while Julie K is my long-lost Californian friend.

Julie K has many incredible talents. Just to name a few: She's a great dancer. She is witty. She is creative. And she has the ability to talk in her sleep. I find this rather amazing and above all amusing. (She once confessed to me in her sleep that she hates Germans. I'm just saying.)

During one of her trips to Norway, we spent some time at my Grandparents' house. One night she sat up in her bed bewildered and confused, and proclaimed that there was a lion in the house. (She was referring to my Grandfather's rather loud and roaring snoring in the room next to ours.)

20+ years later I can totally see why she would think that, though. Have you ever slept next to someone that snores really loud? Not just the little occational nose grunt, I'm talking about the full-out roar. The roar that starts with the inhale and is fully completed through the exhale. The kind of roar that will wake up the other jungle animals. Well, I have. In fact, I sleep next to a lion every night.

The slow moving mother sloth, the long legged 7 year old flamingo and the energetic 2 year old monkey in this jungle will just have to get used to His roars I guess. Because when it all boils down to it, a jungle is incomplete without a King.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight,
in the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight
